Linda is a planning & local government law solicitor with over 24 years' experience of the English legal system.

As a planning lawyer, Linda deals with the legal aspects of planning proposals, whereas Sharon deals with the planning merits of the same. Together & with the support of the remainder of our team, they provide the expertise, experience & practical ability to positively promote the best interests of our clients.

Linda spent many years as a senior local government planning lawyer, at three separate local authorities; including a London Borough & a rural authority. During that time, her work included advising officers, advising elected members at committee on a vast range of planning, enforcement & local government related matters, dealing with appeals, drafting planning & other notices, directions & orders, prosecuting offenders & defending authorities against judicial review applications.

Linda left local government in 1999 to establish her legal practice, which has since expanded to include a planning consultancy. She remains the principal of Linda S Russell, Solicitors & Planning Consultants.

Linda regularly advises & acts for private clients in respect of a wide variety of planning & local government law matters. These include the legal aspects of planning applications, appeals, lawful development, defending against enforcement action & prosecutions. Where appropriate, Linda advises upon & instigates judicial review & other legal proceedings against authorities; she also advises on & prepares maladministration complaints to the authorities & ultimately to the Local Government Ombudsman.

Linda also advises & represents clients in respect of property law matters, including boundary disputes, trespass, adverse possession, party wall, rights of way & right to light.

Our firm is also instructed by local authorities, to whom Linda provides legal advice & drafting skills in respect of all aspects of planning & enforcement law & practice. Naturally, we ensure that no conflict of interest exists between clients.

Linda also regularly delivers planning & enforcement law training courses for planning & enforcement officers, tree, listed building & conservation area officers, conveyancers, property lawyers, architects & surveyors.

Linda's publications include a series of articles for the Law Society's Property in Practice Magazine; having been an executive committee member of the Law Society's Property Committee. Linda is in the process of writing a planning enforcement manual.
