High Hedges

(Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 Part 8)

On 1st June 2005 the above legislation came into force. The Act gives you the right to ask your local council to require your neighbours to reduce the height of their high hedges (usually conifers) where they are blocking too much light from your property.

You may choose whichever of the following service(s) you prefer:

1.     Initial advice & guidance in making a complaint, together with a complaints package with full instructions on the completion & submission of your complaint. Also includes guidance on your right to appeal should the council fail to deal with the matter appropriately.

      £250

2.   Advice, completion & submission of a complaint to the local authority. You will also receive appeal

information (as above), should it prove necessary.

      £450

With options 1 & 2, a fee will also be payable to your local council for dealing with the complaint. That fee varies depending on the relevant council.

3.   Appeal on your behalf to the Secretary of State, should the council fail to take the action you

require (if you are the complainant) or if you have received a remedial notice  requiring works to
your hedge that you consider unnecessary or too onerous.

     £500, plus a surveyor's fee if appropriate.

All fees quoted are inclusive of VAT.
